Fear of 'CAA' is Harming the Nation, Says BJP Leader Dhotre

Agartala, January 15, 2020:

Union Minister Sanjoy Dhotre commented that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) had been introduced to offer citizenship to people rather than disenfranchising people and alleged that a section of people was intentionally creating a disturbing atmosphere.

The Minister of Human Resource Development clarified that the Act offered citizenship to others and the existing citizens of the country had nothing to fear.

While addressing a press conference, Dhotre said, “Fear of unknown is being spread everywhere. This fear is ultimately harming the country and its people. Since the Bill has been placed, the ruling party made its point clear that it’s a bill to offer citizenship and existing citizens of the country have nothing to fear with the bill.”

He added that besides the NDA, many political parties had voted in favor of the Bill and turned it into a legislation. “In Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha many parties who are not in NDA extended support to the bill. And, the opposition have nothing concrete to argue with,” he said.

Hinting at the ongoing protests against the CAA, Dhotre further alleged that whenever things started improving, some political activities would always take place and situation turned bitter. According to him, these triggered the allegations and counter allegations.

Reacting on the JNU violence, he said, “Whenever the situation start taking some good shape, disturbing elements get active and result in some problems which further take a turn of blamegame and mud-slinging.”

When asked about the role of police and allegations being rose against the Vice-Chancellor, he said, “Criticizing someone is very easy. Why did the VC not call the police, what actually happened and what are the situations prevailing over there…all these have to be taken into consideration. Nobody can take a right decision every time.”

It may be mentioned here that Dhotre visited Tripura to assess developments related to higher education in the Northeast. “The Prime Minister himself directed everyone to keep in constant touch with the North East. I will pay visit to the NILET, STPI, BSNL and other agencies to assess the situation and developments,” he added.
