Former Sikkim CM Sanchaman Limboo cremated with full state honours

GANGTOK: Sanchaman Limboo, former Chief Minister of Sikkim, was cremated with full state honours of three gun salute today.

Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang paid the final tribute by laying wreath and offering prayers to the departed Chief Minister Late Limboo at his native place at Hee Gaon, earlier this morning.

The Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Ministers, MLAs, Member of Parliament/ Lok Sabha, Political Secretary to HCM, Advisors & Chairpersons, Retired Army Personnel, Officials and prominent dignitaries attended the final rites to pay tribute to the departed soul.

The funeral procession proceeded towards the College Khola crematorium from the deceased man's native place Hee Gaon at 10:30 am.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and all the dignitaries joined the final procession with hundreds of well wishers and villagers.

Late Limboo passed away on 8th November at the age of 73, after a prolonged illness.

He was one of the prominent political leaders who served the state as its 4th Chief Minister for six months from 17 June 1994 to 12 December 1994.

He also served the state as the minister for Health and Social Welfare departments from 1985 to 1989.

During his tenure as a politician, Limboo was honoured with Tamra Patra Award in the year (1984), Sikkim Samman Award (2004), Golden Award by the Citizen Forum of Nepal (2006) and Sikkim Sewa Ratna Award (2012.

Today, Government Offices, Educational Institutions and Public Undertakings will be closed throughout the State of Sikkim as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
