Gold biscuits worth Rs 39.9 lakhs seized in Manipur

Tengnoupal (Manipur), September 17, 2018:

The Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam apprehended one suspected gold smuggler with 8 gold biscuits weighing 1.33 kilograms worth Rs 39.9 lakhs from Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district.

An Assam Rifles official said, "Based on specific input received from reliable source of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal regarding smuggling of gold of foreign origin, a bus travelling from Moreh to Imphal was stopped at PVCP, Khudengthabi for checking."

On thorough checking of baggage and bus, gold of foreign origin was found inside the slippers of one of the passengers of the bus. During interrogation, the person revealed that he was handed over the gold by an unknown person in Moreh and was told that someone would come and collect at Imphal.

He was promised a sum of Rs 8,000 for the delivery. The person has been identified as Md Muhammuddin of Lilong Haoreibi, Thoubal district .

The recovered gold biscuits and the person were handed over to DRI, Imphal.
