It’s an endless wait in world’s tiniest island for “Govinda”. Oh no, he wasn’t solitary all his life. It is since Sridevi, Hema Malini, Junior Hema Malni left him forever. Junmoni, Chumoni and Purna too decided to part ways. Govinda today lives in his golden memories and “antaheen” wait. Govinda is a star among the visitors who come to Umananda at Guwahati. Deemed as world’s smallest river island the Peacock Island or Brahmachal is a 20 minutes sail from the city of Guwahati.

Famed for its Shiva temple, Umananda once boasted of 6 Golden Langurs. Ironically the population of the endangered species have relegated to one. Sridevi died of some unknown disease and four of them have been brought to the Assam State Zoo for conservation and breeding. Govinda has lived with the priest of the temple for more than 12 years and thrives on the love and affection showered upon him by the visitors. If you visit Umananda please take few slices of “Cakes”, Govinda relishes them. Call him by his name and he shall be there to enjoy his share.

Govinda decides to be in the abode of Shiva for the rest of his life waiting for a company to arrive and fill his emptiness.
