Himachal Pradesh landslide: 5 dead, 40 feared trapped under debris

At least five people have died and nearly 30 are missing after a landslide in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur on Wednesday left several vehicles buried under debris.

SHIMLA: At least five people have died and nearly 30 are missing after a landslide in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur on Wednesday left several vehicles buried under debris.

Reportedly, a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus carrying over 40 passengers along with few vehicles were trapped after the Rekong Peo-Shimla highway was blocked by a landslide.

As many as ten people were rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

In a video that is doing rounds on social media platforms, boulders and rocks can be seen rolling down the hillside.

Nearly 200 troops of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been sent for rescue efforts, reports said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken to the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur regarding the situation in the wake of the landslide. He had assured all possible support in the ongoing rescue operations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to the Chief Minister in view of the landslide and assured him of all possible help.

Over the past few weeks, there have been reports of heavy rainfall causing landslides in several parts of the state.
