India reports 2,73,810 fresh COVID-19 cases, 1619 fatalities over 24 hours

NEW DELHI: The total number of COVID-19 cases in India has gone up to 1,50,61,919, with as many as 2,73,810 new cases have being reported in the past 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours, 1,619 COVID-related deaths have been reported in the country, bringing the total death toll to 1,78,769.

The number of active cases has risen for the 40th day in a row to 19,29,329, accounting for 12.81 % of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has fallen to 86%, according to the Union Health Ministry.

According to union health ministry data, the number of people who have recovered from the disease has increased to 1,29,53,821, while the case fatality rate has decreased to 1.19 %.

The country currently has 19,29,329 active cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 13,56,133 samples were tested on Sunday, and, as of April 18, a total of 26,78,94,549 samples had been tested across the country.

The health ministry emphasised that 70 % of the deaths occurred due to co-morbidities"

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country till date is 12,38,52,566.
