Indigo Airlines Starts Flight Operations in Mizoram

Aizawl, February 29, 2020:

Officials have confirmed that private airline Indigo Airlines will begin flight services on Saturday to solve the airlink problem in the Northeast Indian state.

J Lalhminliana, the Principal Consultant for Civil Aviation has said that the Mizoram CM Zoramthanga will be flagging off the first flight from the Lengpui Airport at 12:30 pm. Lalhminliana has also informed that Indigo Airlines would operate daily on the Guwahati-Aizawl-Agartala route.

Indigo is the third airline, after Air India and Go Air, to begin operations in Mizoram. Since February last year, people in Mizoram had been facing inconveniences as Jet Airways had ceased to operate in the State.

It may be recalled that in July last, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has urged Indigo to begin flight services in the State due to airlink problems.

Zoramthanga, who also holds general administration portfolio, said that the state lost its air direct link with Delhi and Guwahati after Jet Airways withdrew operation from the state on February 9 due to financial crunch.

Meanwhile, Indigo has has also introduced non-stop direct flights from Dibrugarh in Assam to Dimapur and Imphal. The flights will begin operating from April 3 onwards.
