The 13th edition of exercise Nomadic Elephant, a joint training exercise between Indian Army and Mongolian Army concluded at the Mongolian Armed Forces Desert Region Training Centre, Umnugovi Province, Mongolia on Friday.
The 12 days long exercise had commenced on 10 Sep 2018. 45 soldiers of Indian Army from 17 PUNJAB took part in the exercise along with 60 Mongolian Soldiers from Unit 084.
The Exercise began with a cross training period involving force combination, tactical classes, unarmed combat classes, demonstrations and squad post training with special emphasis on drills and procedures involved in counter insurgency/ counter terrorist operations in urban/ rural environment. The initial days of field training also focused on familiarizing with each other’s modus operandi, basic manoeuvres and evolving joint drills.
The second phase of the exercise involved practicing the drills and techniques learned in cross training, live firing by both contingents followed by a tactical exercise. This phase included various tactical scenarios of counter insurgency including establishment of a forward base, area domination, execution of tactical operations like search and destroy operation, house intervention and survival techniques. The field training culminated with 48 hour joint exercise on planning and execution of series of tactical operations like raid, pursuit, MCP, Cordon and search operations etc.
