The North East Student's Association of the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, has condemning the opening of fire at protesters of the varsity, have called it a "murderous and brutal act" and lambasted the Delhi Police force for its alleged silence.
In a release, the student body lamented that pro-CAA activist Gopal Sharma, whom they termed as a "terrorist", opened fire on Thursday while the JNU students were marching to Rajghat, but he was not stopped by "hundreds of policemen."

"The terrorist was brandishing his pistol, openly taunted and threatened the protestors by Pro-Hindutva slogans. The time is such that a pro-CAA terrorist can open the fire unchallenged in front of hundreds of policemen. But that terrorist was not stopped by the Delhi Police until he fired the student", read the student body's communique undersigned by its President Raisul Islam, among others.
The student body has further slammed the Delhi Police for "delaying treatment" by not opening the barricades kept to stop the marching protestors and forcing the student to walk and climb. The student body has also demanded immediate state action against the shooter, Sharma.

Meanwhile, the youth, who fired at anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protestors near Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi on January 30, injuring a university student, has been sent to a 14-day protective custody by a local court. He was earlier produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, police said.
According to news agency ANI, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has applied to carry out a bone ossification test at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in the national capital to ascertain the shooter's age.
