Kashmir girl living in tin shed aces 10th exam; marks 490/500

SRINAGAR: A young girl from Ganderbal district of Kashmir secured 490 marks out of 500 in the recently declared 10th class exams, the results of which were declared last Friday.

 

Remarkably, she secured the marks without taking any coaching and prepared for exams by borrowing books and notes from her friends. Her family is living in a tin shed.

 

The struggles of 17-year-old girl Parveena Ayoub, a resident of Lattiwaza village of Kurhama in Ganderbal district, were recently highlighted by the media after her incredible feat came to light. She had secured 490 marks out of 500 in her 10th class examination despite hardships and struggles in her life, the results of which were declared on Friday.

 

"I wanted to become a doctor but my financial position and living condition at home is becoming a hurdle in my dream to carry on with my studies," she has been quoted as saying.

Parveena’s father, Mohammad Ayoub, has to support a family of six (including his four daughters).

The family lives in a single-room tin shed and the family's income is low. However, Parveena soared through all the hardships with perseverance and efforts and managed to secure good grades.

 

Her story has spread like wildfire thanks to the power of social media, and people are now offering help so that she can continue with her studies.

 

Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar on Saturday awarded the ‘Satya Devi Amla’ prize and a two year fully-funded scholarship to Parveena Ayoub.

 

Vijay Dhar, Chairman of DPS Srinagar, said the award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and was given to the girl "who qualified the exam while facing hardships and struggles."
