BENGALURU: A 24-year-old woman in Bengaluru has asked for a divorce after her husband, who lost his job at a BPO as a consequence of the Covid-induced lockdown, turned to work as a commercial sex worker while keeping his new identity hidden.
The couple married in 2019 after dating for two years and rented a home in Subramanyanagar.
The couple met in the BPO office canteen and fell in love in 2017.
Unfortunately, the happiness didn't last long, as the husband was terminated from his job due to the Covid-19-induced lockdown. After looking for work, he decided to become a male escort but kept it a secret from his wife.

Meanwhile, his wife began to notice his odd behaviour as a result of his constant use of his laptop and cell phone. He also began making unannounced trips to various locations and declined to divulge any information to her, reports suggests.
As her suspicions grew, the woman reportedly sought help from her brother, who reportedly helped her in cracking the password to his laptop. She was surprised to see his pictures in compromising positions with other women when she opened a folder on his laptop.
When approached, he denied being the person depicted in the photos. She later learned, however, that he had started working as a male escort, charging between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 per hour and having a large clientele in the area.

On the advice of some colleagues, she approached Vanitha Sahayavani (women's helpline) after learning about his hidden profession. During the conversation, the husband admitted to working as a professional sex worker, but he also expressed his love for his wife and stated that he did not want to divorce her.
He even promised to quit his new employment, but the woman was adamant in her refusal. In a city court, the couple has lodged a mutual-consent divorce petition.
