The Central government has approved Rs 38 crore for the development of the ethnic park at Keibul Lamjao area in Bishnupur district of Manipur, under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.

The announced for the allotment of the fund for the ethnic park was made by Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar on Sunday at the Sangai Festival. He added that from the next year on, the Sangai Festival can be celebrated in a grand way in Keibul Lamjao. This will prevent disturbance to the environment of the area and help in the conservation of wildlife while organizing such events. he said.

The park is the natural habitat of rare deer called Sangai (brow-antlered deer).
Thounaojam Shyamkumar also lauded the locals of the Keibul Lamjao area for their support in the conservation of Sangai and the conservation of wildlife.
