Manipur CM Invites Armed Rebel Groups to Join Peace Negotiations

Imphal, February 9, 2020:

After Assam government’s signing of the Bodo Peace Accord with the leaders of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), Manipur has turned to its armed rebel groups for peace dialogue.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed to the rebel groups of the state to come to the negotiating table and settle the issues.

According to Singh, there is no other option other than initiating the peace talks with armed groups. Singh also hinted of a group of armed insurgents coming to the negotiating table.

Calling the Bodo Agreement an achievement, the Manipur CM appreciated the central and state governments for their efforts to end the struggle of the Bodos.

It may be mentioned here that over 1615 cadres of the NDFB laid down their arms and returned to the mainland. The Assam government has also been appealing to the United Liberation Front of Assam or ULFA(I) to return to the state for the peace process.

Following the footsteps of neighboring Assam, the Manipur CM said that it was time for the state’s insurgent groups to come forward and initiate peace talks with the Centre. The Chief Minister has also urged the people to appeal to the rebel groups to start the peace talks.
