Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has demanded CBI for an inquiry into the custodial death of police constable Manjur Ahamed while being interrogated by police.
Addressing the media, MPCC spokesperson, Kh Joykisan said that MPCC will never accept such custodial killings. He added that the magisterial inquiry as announced by the government against the case is not suitable. A police official was picked up and tortured till death by men in same uniform. Kh Joykisan also warned that MPCC will launch various forms of agitation if the government failed to translate their demand into action at the earliest.
He further asked why the BJP led government let the prime accused of Lungnila Elizabeth murder case escape when he was about to be convicted. While charging that the government might be involved in the escape of KCP Nando, he also expressed apprehension that Manjur Ahamed might have been killed to avoid leaking of information on government involvement.
Only an independent body like CBI should investigate the death and whether the Manipur government is involved in the escape or not. This will clear the apprehensions in the minds of the people as well, he reiterated.
Referring to BJP spokesperson’s statement that the INC candidate contesting from Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency (IMPC) O Nabakishore is a corrupted person, the MPCC spokesperson recalled that the BJP candidate in IMPC was once shot in the leg by a proscribed outfit on corruption charges.
While asserting that the total income of the inner BJP candidate in the financial year is Rs 7,55,751 while total current market value of his immovable asset is Rs 1,58,79,348, he further questioned how the BJP candidate has accumulated so much wealth with an average income when the Congress candidate, O Nabakishore who has more income than him has lesser worth of assets.
Moreover, the vigilance department of the state government had already given a clean chit to O Nabakishore, Joykisan recounted and warned that if the BJP failed to clarify within the next three days, MPCC will file a defamation suit against them for defaming someone on false charges.
Manjur, who was also police personnel, was picked up by men in the same uniform subsequent to the escape of KCP Nando from JNIMS, and died of alleged torture meted out during police interrogation.
