17 July 2018:
The first web portal www.pherzawldistrict.com, entirely dedicated to the people of Pherzawl district, was launched on Monday at the Pherzawl district Deputy Commissioner camp office at Tuibong in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
According to Citizens’ Initiative for Development and Empowerment (CIDE), the portal, conceived and developed by it, was opened for the public by DC Mannuamching in the presence of Hmar Christian Leaders’ Forum secretary Rev Dr. V Lalnghakthang.
“The primary objective of this citizens’ project is to provide easy access to information to the people of Pherzawl district and also to serve as a platform for exchanging ideas among stakeholders for overall development of the remote region of Manipur,” stated co-founder Timothy Z Zote of CIDE.
The website has many sections like who’s who of Pherzawl district, news, forums, galleries, village data and more. Users can use their Facebook and Twitter accounts to post comments and also post questions to their elected representatives in the forum section, Tomothy, who edits Manmasi Digest, a Hmar periodical, added.
On the creation of the website, Mannuamching said, “This website will enable to access the development within the district and help in providing information to the people. I hope that this will play an important role in the positive development of the district.”
Pherzawl was one of the new districts of Manipur after it was bifurcated from Churachandpur. Similarly, Tengnoupal was bifurcated from Chandel district, Kamjong from Ukhrul, Kangpokpi from Senapati and Jiribam from Imphal East district, after the then government had created seven new districts out of its nine districts in December 2016, making Manipur a 16-district state.
