Manipur Governor Distributes Water Tanks to Orphans For Rainwater Harvesting

Imphal, June 30, 2019

A programme was held at Raj Bhavan in Manipur capital Imphal on Saturday for the purpose of rainwater harvesting in presence of Nagaland Governor, Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya who is also taking additional charge of Manipur Governor.

During the event, Acharya distributed 1000 litres capacity water storage tanks to the beneficiaries of Orphanage and Old Age Homes in Manipur. Altogether, 40 tanks were distributed.

PB Acharya, said, “In line with the appeal made by the Chief Minister N Biren Singh to conserved rainwater, Raj Bhavan, Imphal has taken up the initiative to promote rainwater harvesting by distributing the water tanks.”

The proprietor of Classic Hotel has kindly sponsored fourty 1,000 litre tanks for distribution.

The Governor said: “If we want to strengthen India, the weakest be strengthened and empowered those unempowered. Unless we preserve water, life will be very difficult. Water is life, save water for sustenance of the future. God has blessed us with rain; therefore, we should conserve water and used it judiciously. He encouraged the beneficiaries to set up water tanks and harvest the rainwater to address the water scarcity problem in the state.”

Some of the beneficiaries who received the Water storage Tanks were All Manipur Senior Citizens’ Welfare Association, Mahila Kalyan Samiti (Dewlahland), All Manipur Mentally Handicapped Persons’ Welfare, Meitei Leimarol Sinnai Sang, Sneha Bhawan De-addiction Centre, Organization for the Underprivileged Group, Tabitha Children Home (Mantripukhri) and Destitute Children Home (Sagolband).

Altogether, 40 tanks were distributed (including 5 numbers for the Ima Keithel).
