IMPHAL: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh has emphasised the importance of implementing e-governance which will enable officials to carry out their duties from any location anytime.

According to the chief minister, this would significantly assist in the state's introduction of effective and smooth governance.

For this reason, the state government recently distributed laptops among its officials.

“Distributed laptops to officers of Government of Manipur as part of the implementation of e-office in the State. The officers are being encouraged to execute their duties from anywhere anytime to provide a smooth, transparent and efficient governance in Manipur,” Singh tweeted.

In addition, the Manipur government introduced an e-government receipt accounting system (e-GRAS) portal, which enables people to pay taxes and fees from anywhere anytime.

The e-GRAS service can be accessed by visiting the Manipur government's official website egrasmanipur.nic.in.

Although the State Bank of India (SBI) will provide various payment gateways for tax payment, the state government plans to gradually expand this service to other banks in the future.
