Manipur: One Arrested for Leaking Class XI Question Papers

Imphal, February 24, 2020:

A management staff at a higher secondary school, M Sunderchand, was apprehended on Saturday by the cyber crime unit of the Manipur Police, days after Class 11 final exams

were called off in Manipur government schools after purported question papers of at least five subjects surfaced on social media.

Sunderchand was arrested based on a complaint filed by the secretary of the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM), a senior officer said. Sunderchand has been remanded in police custody for seven days, and more details will be available in the case after a thorough investigation

After the alleged leakage of Question paper of Class XI Examination conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur, (COHSEM), the Manipur Education Minister Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam assured that necessary steps are being taken by the administration to get to the bottom of the situation and promised severe action against the teachers and officials involved.

Addressing the media here earlier today, the Minister said that an Enquiry Committee of three men with Director Education (S) Shri Th. Kirankumar as chairman had been constituted on the 19th February, 2020 to probe the issue.

Radheshyam also informed that an FIR had also been filed with the Cyber Crime, Crime Branch as a criminal case against the alleged leakages of Question paper. Investigation will soon be carried out against those persons who were involved in the alleged leakage of Question paper, he added.

The Minister informed the media that question papers for five subjects of Class XI Examination were found allegedly leaked and being circulated in social media and the examination has since been rescheduled.

The packed question papers dispersed from COHSEM to the respective police stations and schools were directed to be resubmitted to the COHSEM. Unfortunately, among the resubmitted question papers of the subjects, for which examinations are yet to be held, many were found unsealed. As per the guidelines, the sealed question papers were supposed to be opened only just 45 minutes prior to the examination.
