IMPHAL: Since 2020, Manipur police have secured fines totaling over Rs 2 crore from people who have violated COVID-19 guidelines or SOPs.
According to data compiled by the police department, since March 24, last year, when stringent COVID measures were implemented, the state police have secured Rs 2,01,42,860 as fines from violators.

The police have been particularly vigilant against those who do not wear face masks in public places, as well as those who do not maintain and spit in public places and have imposed fines as a result.
According to reports, police in 16 districts across the state fined 1,39,625 violators and detained 51,850 vehicles during the period.
According to the police, 312 people were detained on May 11 and later released after receiving warnings and fines totaling Rs 1,32,760.
The maximum amount of fine was collected in the seven districts where full curfew has been in effect since May 8 last year.
According to reports, the COVID-19 caseload in Manipur reached 37,036 on Wednesday with the state reporting its highest single-day increase of 666 new cases.
There are currently 5,272 active cases in Manipur.
