Sangai Festival 2019, under the aegis of Manipur Tourism, has officially begun in Imphal today. It will continue with the cultural fest till November 30th.
The annual fest of the state is a 10-day extravaganza which showcases art, culture, handloom, handicrafts, cuisine and indigenous sports, music etc. of Manipur.

Although the cultural fest is celebrated with grandeur across the state, its main venue is the Hapta Kangjeibung and Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre, popularly known as the BOAT.
Traditional Manipuri dance, and folk music of Manipur are mainly performed at the BOAT. The motive of the Sangai Fest 2019 is to celebrate the rich culture of the state.
The festival began with homage to War victims’ memorial, followed by a visit to the Peace Museum to mark the history of the Japanese battle in Imphal.

It may be mentioned here that as many as 20 Japanese culture missions participated in the mission along with people from Thailand, Zimbabwe, Myanmar, Bangladesh and other countries.
The primary locations of the fest are - Mao, Ukhrul, Lamboikhongnangkhong, Uripok, KeibulLamjao, KhumanLampak, and HaptaKangjeibung. The Sangai Festival is observed as one of the main events to attract tourists and help build Manipur as one of the major tourist attractions of the country.
