Rationale thinking and understanding essential in science education: Yumnam Joykumar Singh

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Joykumar Singh as said that developing rationale thinking and understanding are essential in learning science. He was speaking as Chief Guest at the closing function of Science Meet – 2018, today, held at the campus of National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Akampat in Imphal.

Deputy Chief Minister said, thinking, imagination, observation, analysing concepts and derivation are the basic constituents of learning science. He said, science means trying to understanding the concepts behind things and happenings around us.

Shri Joykumar Singh said, although modern education came late in the state, we have been able to learn and understand science and many scientists from the state have been working around the globe. This is a clear example of how scientific temperament can be adapted among us. Stating that human beings are much more superior to other creatures of God because of the ability to think and imagine things around us, Deputy Chief Minister said, we should use our brain to think and take steps which are productive and helpful to people as a whole. He appealed people especially young minds to develop thinking habits so that more and more innovative ideas can be developed which will help in bringing a comfortable living and shine the state in future.

Director of MASTEC, Shri Th. Surendranath Singh said, since 1997, every year Science Meet has been organising to nurture the scientific temperament among students in the state. He said, there have been a number of models developed by the students which can even be upgradedto invention category. It is an encouraging step and therefore, MASTEC in association with various scientific organisations in the state has been working to nurture them.

Director of Science & Technology, Shri E. Ibocha Singh said, the department has been trying to open an Innovation Hub at Takyelpat in Imphal. He said, it will cater the needs of young minds to develop innovative ideas using facilities in the Hub.

Deputy Chief Minister handed over Dr.Ibeyaima Innovation Award to Dr. R.K. Kishore Singh and State Science Communicator Award to Shri N. Shyamkishore Singh. He also distributed awards to the students who got positions in the Science Model Competitions and other competitions in the Meet. Altogether 60 Science Models were exhibited in the Meet.
