Meghalaya: 2 Patients in Shillong Civil Hospital Test 'Negative', Categorized as "Cured"

Shillong, May 1, 2020:

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that there two coronavirus patients who are hospitalized at the Civil Hospital in Shillong who have tested negative in two consecutive tests done after 14 days of isolation, and are now categorized as "recovered."

With this, the state that has reported a single death from the disease, is one step closer to being COVID-free.

"The report of the 11th active COVID-19 case has also come out negative. The latest report is awaited", Sangma wrote in a tweet.

So far, 1,629 samples were sent for testing and 1,557 have come out negative. 60 test reports are awaited. Out of the 11 active positive cases, 10 were retested and found to be negative. 1 has been sent for retesting, Sangma said.

At the same time, the state administration has begun the process of bringing its stranded citizens back.

Taking an initiative to facilitate the return of its citizens stranded in the other Northeast Indian states, the Meghalaya Government has started issuing registration forms in this regard.

The Government of Meghalaya will be making arrangements to bring back its stranded citizens who are in the North-East states and who wish to return back to the State, said a Government release undersigned by the Chief Secretary of the state. The Meghalaya government will permit all such movement into the state from May 5 onwards, added the release.

Those who intend to return to the state have been instructed to fill up a form in the Government’s official website on or before May 4, 2020.

Those who do not have internet access, have been instructed to call helpline numbers (81320-11037, 84330-38716, 97115 44148, 73385-50288) between 9 am to 8 pmon any day till May 4, 2020 to register.
