Shillong, October 4, 2019:

Bishop of Garo Hills Rt. Rev Andrew Marak undertook a voyage to the holy city of Vatican after an invitation by Pope Francis.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, posting a picture of Rt. Rev Andrew Marak along with Pope Francis on Twitter, captioned it, “Bishop of Garo Hills Rt. Rev Andrew Marak called on Holy Father @Pontifex in the holy city of Vatican.”

The 83-year-old Pope Francis is the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State.

Francis is the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, the first to visit the Arabian Peninsula, and the first Pope from outside Europe since the Syrian Gregory III, who reigned in the 8th century.

Pope Francis’s professional name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, S.J. and he was elected in March 13, 2013.

Pope Francis succeeded Pope Benedict XVI who served from April 19, 2005 to February 28, 2013.
