Meghalaya Body Resolves to Move SC if CAB is Passed

Shillong, December 8, 2019:

The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) said that it would move the Supreme Court if the central government implements the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

CoMSO, after a meeting over CAB, opined that it was not 100 percent safe due to the exclusion of certain areas of Meghalaya from its purview.

The body has decided to move the apex court if needed to push CAB away from the northeastern state. CoMSO leader Robertjune Kharjahrin informed that they would file a case in the Supreme Court against CAB. He alleged that the political parties were using the CAB for vote bank and said that the faith only relies on the SC.

The leader further said that the Sixth Schedule excluded areas like the Cantonment Board, European Ward, RR Colony, etc. and that it would give rise to anarchy. Therefore, CoMSO has rejected the Citizenship Bill.

CoMSO has further called for unity among the public and social and civil organisations and oppose the Citizenship Bill. The CoMSO has also offered its support to the North East Students Organization (NESO) in the latter’s ongoing protest against the citizenship Bill.
