Meghalaya to get first youth de-addiction centre in Northeast

SHILLONG: Meghalaya will get the first-of-its-kind de-addiction centre for youths in the Northeast.

State social welfare minister Kyrmen Shylla laid the foundation stone for a de-addiction centre for youths in the New Shillong township yesterday.

Officials said the centre would be operated by KRIPA Foundation is a public-private partnership with the state's social welfare department.

According to reports, the first youth de-addiction centre in Meghalaya and the Northeast will reach out to children and adolescents in the city for early childhood intervention and risks.

Shylla, said the state needs more NGOs working for the cause of de-addiction, especially in the affected districts where there are no facilities for substance and drug users' therapy, care, and recovery.

The issue of substance addiction has been a concern in many areas of the Northeast.
