Meghalaya Lad Born without Limbs Dreams of Making it Big as a Doctor

Shillong, March 9, 2020:

Dreams are what keep some of us going despite insurmountable odds. One such dreamer is the Meghalaya born Heimonmi Synnah, a 20-year-old divyang who was born without upper limbs, and now, hopes of becoming a doctor.

Despite his handicap, the spirited youngster, who is a student of Sawyongdoh Higher Secondary Schhol in West Jaintia Hills' Mowkaiaw town, has continued his studies. Now, he is even appearing in 

To cope with his situation, the Meghalaya youngster user his right leg to put words to paper. Thus, when the youth took out a pen to write the exams with his foot, other students at the examination centre were left shell shocked.

What unravelled in front of their eyes is something that they will never forget: Synnah took out the question paper and answer script with his left legs and started writing with his right toe.

His family, who never thought that the boy would be able to either read or write, have expressed pleasure at his unthinkable achievement. “This is the happiest moment of my life. We never expected that he would do so much. Heimonmi has always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I wish his dream would come true", Aimaiya Synnah, his mother, told media persons.

Heimonmi’s father Bnein Lamare is a farmer, and the family hails from Laskein village in West Jaintia Hills district. Meanwhile, the rural family has expressed hope that if the lad is able to pass the SSLC exam, the Government will provide him with financial assistance so that he can inch closer towards his dream.
