Meghalaya, February 27, 2019:

Three more bodies of Meghalaya miners have been discovered inside the 370-foot deep mine of death after almost three months of rescue efforts. In a race against time, rescue operations are still continuing in Meghalaya’s Ksan district to rescue the trapped miners of the ‘rat hole’ tragedy in Meghalaya’s Ksan district where fifteen miners were trapped when the mine flooded in December of last year.

The NDRF and Navy are continuing to pump out water from the flooded mine. Altogether, five bodies have been discovered out of the reported 15 who went to work in the mine on the fateful day when water seeped into the mine from the neighbouring Lytien river and nearby mines. It is to be mentioned that a an underwater remotely operated vehicle located the first body on January 16, and the second on January 26. Only one body, belonging to Amir Hussain from Assam, has been recovered.

Divers located the third body on Saturday and the fourth body on Monday. The fifth body has been discovered on Tuesday. It is to be mentioned that all bodies are in a highly decomposed state and falling apart whenever rescue is being attempted. But the efforts are still underway to recover the bodies of the trapped miners in Ksan.

It is to be mentioned that the Supreme Court has also sent a notice to the Centre directing it to recover the bodies.
