'Meghalaya National Games Outreach Summit 2019' Organized in Shillong

Shillong, November 19, 2019:

A 'Meghalaya National Games Outreach Summit 2019' is being organised on November 19-20 by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association ahead of the National Games, which are to be held in the State.

The summit is being held to discuss the challenges, policies, infrastructure and allied development for the upcoming National Games 2022 to be hosted in the state.

The Summit has been attended by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, among several other dignitaries. "I am certain that the summit will bring all the stakeholders together to create the right eco system for development of sports in the State", said Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

It may be mentioned here that the Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh recently said the Centre will provide Rs 170 crore to the state government to develop sports infrastructures for the National Games 2022.

Meghalaya's tourism received further boost when Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot publicly announced that his ministry would set up one of the five National Sports stadiums of international standard for differently-abled in Meghalaya at over Rs 200 crore.

Meghalaya will be the third northeastern state, after Manipur (1999) and Assam (2007), to host the National Games. The national event will coincide with the 50th year of the creation of Meghalaya.

Notably, Meghalaya had co-hosted the 2016 South Asian Games along with neighboring state Assam.
