The State Rescue Team (SRT) of the Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services along with the District Police have recovered the 3 INSAS rifles at Wah Umkhrah on Monday.

SHILLONG: The State Rescue Team (SRT) of the Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services along with the District Police have recovered the 3 INSAS rifles at Wah Umkhrah on Monday.

Reportedly, the rifles were snatched by unidentified miscreants on August 15, 2021.

Based on the information in an anonymous letter claiming that the rifles were tossed into the Umkhrah river, the SRT tram carried out a search operation and recovered the rifles.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to Twitter to make the announcement of the recovery.

“The State Rescue Team (SRT) of the Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services and the District Police have today recovered the 3 INSAS rifles at Wah Umkhrah that were seized at Umshing-Mawkynroh Police Outpost on August 15th", he wrote.

Reportedly, the Chief Minister had earlier appealed to the unidentified miscreants to return the weapons. His act was widely criticized by the opposition for not been able to shoulder responsibilities.
