Meghalaya Police Seizes Over 850 Kilos of Cannabis

Shillong, August 28, 2019:

In a dusk-to-dawn operation, two simultaneous yet different drug busts were made by the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the SP, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.

At around 5 pm yesterday, source information was received that one Maruti Dzire car bearing registration number ML-05-J-5886, which was suspected to be carrying drugs was roaming around Mawlai. The car was intercepted by a team of the Mawlai police and a team of the ANTF.

On spot interrogation, the accused, Richard Wahlang, produced the drugs which were kept under the seats on which he was sitting. Another accused, John Fiscal Lyngkhoi, was driving the vehicle. The accused are facing trial in six different cases, including murder, kidnapping, arms act, etc. The incident happened in the presence of two witnesses.

Ten soap boxer having contraband 109.97 grams were seized from the joint possession of both the accused. A case has been registered under section 21 (b) NDPS Act, Mawlai Police Station.

Similarly, another seizure was made at around 1 am, August 28. One truck bearing registration number NL-01K-7498 had been detected by locals of Mawlyngngad village in suspicious circumstances.

The locals informed the Sohryngkham O.P, who informed the Shillong SP and rushed to the site.

On spot interrogation, the driver disclosed that there was a hidden compartment in the truck, in which cannibis was being stashed. The search and the seizure of cannabis weighing 850 kgs, was done as per procedures under the NDPS Act.

Both the accused are being produced before the Magistrate and further investigation is on to nab other accused involved.
