SHILLONG: A shipment of Meghalaya's miracle spice Lakadong turmeric has been exported to the Netherlands and UK on Wednesday along with the ginger powder.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to Twitter to make the announcement.
The Chief Minister said that such development will provide better market linkage and better value for the products of the local producers.
"Moving forward to provide better market linkage and better value for their products a flag-off program of Export of Lakadong Turmeric to Netherland and UK was done today", he tweeted.

Sangma further congratulated the Agricultural Minister, the department, and the entrepreneurs who made the export possible.
The exported items have been sourced from Women Self Help Groups (SHG)in the state.
Found in West Jaintia Hills of the state, this special variety of turmeric is known to have a high quantity of curcumin. According to reports, the regular variety of turmeric usually has 3% to 5% curcumin content while Lakadong is believed to have 12%.
It is claimed that this vibrant spice can kill fungus faster than other spice, lower cholesterol levels, protect the body from diabetes, etc.
