Meghalaya’s Folk Music Legend Bah Kerios Wahlang Passes Away

Shillong, January 12, 2020:

Folk music legend from Meghalaya Bah Kerios Wahlang breathed his last on Saturday evening. The Duitara (folk music instrument) expert has been an inspiration for well-known musicians from the state, including Blues Singer, Soulmate’s Tipriti Kharbangar.

. The 'duitara' wizard enchanted people around the world with his songs about our Sacred Grove. We have lost a true legend today. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on his Twitter handle.

Bah Kerios Wahlang’s journey has been an interesting one. From driving through the serpentine roads in the hills of Meghalaya, to making his own Duitara and then keeping alive the folk essence of the state, Wahlang has seen it all.

His contribution as the voice of the sacred forest of Mawphlang will always be remembered.
