KHLIEHRIAT: A body of a minor girl, suspected to have been raped and murdered, was recovered in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) Meghalaya yesterday evening.
The recovery of the body of the 16-year-old was made after some workers who were loading coal in the area spotted the body lying in a pool of blood in the Sutnga Elaka area in the district.
According to reports, the victim went to school on Friday but, did not return.
When she did not return home, her parents tried to reach her through the phone; however, the phone was answered by some other person, who said them that she left her phone in school.

In a similar incident reported from the Sohkymphor village in East Jaintia Hills on December 2020, a class XI student’s body was found in a forest after she did not return home from school.
Despite calls from all sides to apprehend the perpetrator, the East Jaintia Hills Police have been unable to make any progress in the case.
