Mizoram Deputy CM Tawnluia tests positive for COVID-19

AIZAWL: Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia has tested positive for COVID-19 this morning.

Tawnluia conducted a RAgT test and the result confirmed his positive state.

Tawnluia has mild symptoms and his health condition is stable and placed in home isolation.

In the cabinet, Tawnluia holds many portfolios such as public health engineering, urban development and poverty alleviation, and animal husbandry and veterinary.

The 77-year-old leader is the senior vice president of the Mizo National Front as well.

Mizoram reported 235 COVID-19 positive cases over the past 24 hours and the state currently has as many as 1,906 active cases.

The death toll remained stable at 17 so far.

To contain the surge in cases, the government has announced 7 days lockdown which will come into force from May 10 to May 17.
