Mizoram extends lockdown due to 'extremely high' COVID positivity rate

The Mizoram government on Friday extended the ongoing lockdown in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) till July 31 due to detection of 'extremely high' positivity rate of COVID-19 in spite of the stringent measures taken to arrest rising cases.

AIZAWL: The Mizoram government on Friday extended the ongoing lockdown in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) till July 31 due to detection of 'extremely high' positivity rate of COVID-19 in spite of the stringent measures taken to arrest rising cases.

"It is felt necessary to continue with the current restriction for prevention of the further spread of coronavirus, and to facilitate the ongoing mass testing conducted by the health and family welfare department," it read.

The Deputy Commissioner have been given the power to impose lockdown and restrictions in other places depending in the the pandemic situation.

According to the notification, lockdown or other restrictions may be imposed in other places in the state by deputy commissioners depending on the pandemic situation, the release said.

All shops will be closed in the AMC area except those dealing with essential commodities, it said.

There will be No restriction on travel and transportation of goods outside the AMC area. Essential services like water and electricity supply, healthcare, vaccination and LPG distribution will operate as usual.

Lockdown guidelines issued on 16th July shall continue to be implemented to prevent further spread of COVID-19 and to facilitate ongoing mass testing conducted by the Health Department.

The ongoing lockdown was scheduled to be lifted on Saturday.

Mizoram COVID Update

As on July 24, 7AM, Mizoram recorded 31, 145 cases of COVID-19 with 8760 active cases. A total of 22904 patients have been discharged, while 137 died of the virus.
