AIZAWL: A case against the Assam Police officials alleging theft of construction materials from Mizoram territory has been lodged by Kolasib district administration in the Bairabi police station yesterday.
In a notification the Deputy Commissioner of Kolasib district of Mizoram, Dr. H. Lalthangliana said to the Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi District, Rohan Kumar Jha that on August 20 around 12 noon, Assam Police on duty entered Mizoram territory in Zophai in Bairabi where construction of a bridge is undertaken to connect the main road with the paddy field owned by Pu Ch. Chhunga, the first Chief Minister of Mizoram.
According to the statement of DC, Kolasib, Assam Police created problems for the workers on the site and even stole some construction materials including pieces of iron rods, etc.

Following which a police case against theft of construction materials has been filed against Assam Police at Bairabi Police Station.
Lalthangliana said, "In this regard, I would like to reiterate that this incident may not be considered a boundary issue as it is an ongoing construction works for connecting road."
"However, Government Servant committing an act that can be interpreted as theft towards government property is very disappointing and considered very serious. I, therefore, request you as District Magistrate to kindly take necessary action.

However, Gaurav Upadhyay Superintendent of Police of Hailakandi district has termed the allegations of Kolasib district administration as baseless and malafide.
“The allegation of any theft by a disciplined force like Assam Police is absolutely concocted, baseless, malafide and devoid of any facts and is an attempt by Mizoram administration to divert the attention from the main issue, that is illegal construction by Mizoram authorities on Assam soil,” he said.
