Mizoram: Muslim bodies urge Assam to lift economic blockade, resolve issue at border

Aizawl: The Mizoram Muslim Welfare Society and Aizawl Mosque Committee on Tuesday said that the death of Silchar's Intaj Ali "must not be connected with the recent border dispute between Mizoram and the economic blockade of the National Highway 306 by people of Lailapur.

The bodies have requested the authorities of Cachar (in Assam) and the local people of Lailapur to life the economic blockade "and allow all the Mizoram bound transport vehicles carrying essential commodities immediately."

The Assam-Mizoram border row continued for the eighth consecutive day on Sunday with the authorities of both the States failing to make local groups in Lower Assam lift the economic blockade.

"People must understand there is loss for both side whenever a problem like this arises. Further exaggeration in the border will lead to more complications," the bodies said.

The MMWS and AMC have urged the State Governments and the Central Government to "resolve the issue at the earliest."

"The timing of the death may raise doubts but it is very clear that the unfortunate demise of late Intaj Ali is not related to the present problem, it is reportedly related to contreaband drugs," the Aizawl Mosque Committee said in a statement.
