AIZAWL: Officials of North East Frontier Railway(NFR) gave a PowerPoint Presentation of the progress of 51.38 Km long Bairabi - Sairang Rail link, the new Line Project taken up by them in the presence of Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati at the Raj Bhavan, Aizawl, today morning.

After a series of revisions of the estimated date of completion due to several challenges, the project is now estimated to be completed by March 2024.

The government of India declared this Project as a “National Project” back in 2008-09. Laying of the foundation stone of the BG New Line from Bairabi to Sairang (Mizoram) was done by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 29.11.2014.

As per presentation from NFR official, the major works of the project includes 375 Lakh cubic metre of Earthwork, 55 major bridges, 87 minor bridges, 12653 Metre length of tunnelling works, construction of 4 stations. Out of this 65 % of overall physical progress is estimated to be achieved at present.

NFR official informed Governor that in order to speed up the project, the State also gave a helping hand and so far the locals have also been supportive.

They also said that the state has simplified Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Railway contractors and also arranged monthly review meetings personally chaired by Chief Secretary along with more effective and frequent Deputy Commissioners level meetings.

However, the railway officials discussed with the Governor that further assistance is required from the state for finalizing mutation of the land, construction of approach roads and solving some local hindrances and administrative issues.

During the discussion of the progress of the BG New Line from Bairabi to Sairang project in the presence of Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, the state was represented by Pu K.T. Beicho, Commissioner & Secretary, Transport and Pu Hrangtawna, Consultant while the NFR was represented by Pu Naveen Prakash, Dy CE, Pu Harjimal Meena, Dy CE and Pu Malay Baruah, EE.
