AIZAWL: Mizoram witnessed the largest single day increase of 229 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.

With the latest infections, the total number of cases has risen to 5,742, with 13 people having died as a result of COVID 19.

According to reports, there are 986 active cases in the state right now, with 4,743 patients who have recovered. In the last 24 hours, the state tested 3,305 samples, with 6 per cent of them proving to be positive.

Sixty four of the new cases were confirmed at the Zoram Medical College through RT-PCR. According to an official release, the remaining 165 were detected through Rapid Antigen Tests. The district of Aizawl had the most cases, with 112, followed by Serchhip, which had 64 positive cases.

A total of 108 policemen who had gone to West Bengal for election duty are among the latest patients.

In addition, 16 Assam Rifles jawans and an army personnel were found to be optimistic.

The newly infected people include 23 children, including a month-old infant, according to the sources.

According to state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi, 1,86,723 people including 14,101 healthcare staff have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Tuesday.
