AIZAWL: Mizoram's COVID-19 caseload has climbed up to 7,796 after as many as 173 people tested positive for the novel Coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
Nine police officials who returned from election duty in West Bengal are among the fresh positive cases.
Of the total 173 new cases, Aizawl district is on top with 142 cases while eight cases were reported from Lunglei, three from Siaha, nine in Khawzawl, five in Saitual, two cases each from Champhai and Mamit, and one each in Kolasib and Lawngtlai districts.

According to reports, 29 patients had a travel history, while the others contracted the infection locally.
Mizoram currently has 1854 active COVID cases, while 5920 people infected with the virus have so far been recovered from the infection.
Among the total active cases, Aizawl alone has 1296 active cases, followed by Lunglel (90), Lawngtlal (44), Mamit (55), Slaha (61), Khawzawl (28), Champhai (9), Kolasib (89), Serchhip (147) and Saitual with 35 cases.
The COVID death toll in the state stands at 22.
