Nagaland COVID-19 Patient Discharged from Hospital in Guwahati

Guwahati, May 1, 2020:

Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the sole patient from Nagaland who had earlier tested positive for the COVID-19 has finally been discharged. The patient was admitted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Announcing this at a press meet in Guwahati, Sarma added that 3 more patients are being discharged in Assam today. Two patients from Morigaon were discharged from the MMCH in Guwahati and one patient was discharged from the Civil Hospital in Golaghat district.

The patient had tested positive at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Aril 12. Assam’s Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was the first to make the announcement via Twitter.

Curiously, the patient's COVID-19 positive status seemed to have made the 33-year-old man from Nagaland commercial hub Dimapur “stateless”. The patient arrived from Kolkata by Air India Flight no 707, seat no 5B on March 24.

According to official reports, he submitted a self declaration form to medical staff and was advised home quarantine for 14 days. Later, he was referred to Guwahati by the Zion hospital in Dimapur in Nagaland. After he tested positive, the Zion hospital too was sealed off to contain the outbreak.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an Order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, today, to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4 in a bid to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.

MHA also issued new guidelines to regulate different activities in this period, based on the risk profiling of the districts of the country into red, green and orange zones.

The guidelines have permitted considerable relaxations in the districts falling in the Green and Orange Zones.

The criteria for identification of districts as Red, Green and Orange Zones have been spelt out in detail in a letter dated April 30 issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Green Zones will be districts with either zero confirmed cases till date; or, no confirmed case in the last 21 days.
