DIMAPUR: Nagaland Governor R N Ravi today rushed to the Dzoukou Valley situated at the Nagaland-Manipur border where a wildfire has been raging since yesterday, reports said. The fire has engulfed much of the Southern Dzoukou region, setting the alarm bells ringing.
The wildfire, which was yesterday night seen from the capital city of Kohima, is still raging on, even as the state disaster management authority is working towards dousing the fire with the help of the Indian Air Force (IAF) choppers.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority confirmed the incident, hours after locals uploaded videos of a burning Dzoukou on social media. Notably, Inside Northeast was the first media outlet to report on the disaster after sources on the ground informed about the fire raging in the Valley.

The Southern Angami Youth Association (SAYO), which has been working for the protection of the valley and issues restrictions from time to time, will be sending a delegation to the Dzoukou Valley.
According to sources in the area, the fire has already engulfed the Dzukou valley viewpoint and is heading towards the main Valley. The extent of damage is yet to be ascertained.
The wildfire in Dzoukou, which sees heavy footfall in December-January, has boggled as COVID-19 restrictions have ensured a quiet winter in the Valley this year. Since the pandemic began earlier in the year, the Southern Angami Youth Association has imposed restrictions on trespassing in the area.
