It is said that 'where there is a will, there is a way' and it seems like sixteen-year-old Momita Karki from Nagaland has taken it to heart as she cracked the top 10 in the 10th exams conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE). The teen has secured 95.33% with distinction marks in all the subjects.
Momita is the daughter of Hera Bahadur Karki, a milkman and was raised in a cow farm (Khuti), where the family looks after ten cows, 14 goats at Tsezou, L Khel Kohima village near Thizama. The family have been staying at the farm for more than 25 years.
Momita passed out from Regimental School in the Thizama Assembly Constituency and walks 35 minutes every day to reach her school. A student there since class A, Momita’s elder brother was also the top 38th rank holder in HSLC 2014 and encouraged Momita to study hard to secure good grades.
When she gets off school, Momita helps out her parents in household chores and gathering cattle fodder, leaving very little time for other hobbies. But despite having a hectic life, the youngster also studied for 8-9 hours every day since January in preparation for her exams.
