Nagaland records 226 new COVID-19 cases; equipment for oxygen plants airlifted to state

DIMAPUR: Nagaland’s COVID-19 active caseload rose to 1,261 with the detection of 226 new cases today, the highest single-day spike in the state this year.

State health and family welfare minister S Pangnyu Phom said of the new cases, 137 were detected in Dimapur, 74 in Kohima, 10 in Tuensang, two in Mon and one each in Peren and Zunheboto.

The state has so far recorded a total of 13,976 COVID-19 positive cases.

As many as 12 people recuperated from the disease during the last 24 hours. Of them, eight are from Dimapur and two each from Kohima and Mokokchung.

A total of 12,224 people have so far recovered from the disease in the state so far.

Meanwhile, equipment for setting up three oxygen plants in Nagaland reached Dimapur airport today.

The three oxygen plants will be set up in Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio thanked defence minister Rajnath Singh for ensuring air transport of equipments for the oxygen plants.

“This will enable us to have consistent oxygen supply for effective management of #COVID case,” Rio tweeted.

Deputy chief minister Y Patton expressed sincere appreciation to Indian Air Force (IAF) MCC wing commander S Akheto Jakhalu for his involvement in ensuring that the equipment reaches the state on time.

“Also, my gratitude to PM Shri NarendraModi and @DefenceMinIndia,” Patton tweeted.
