Nagaland: Tuensang SP accused of assaulting Tribal constable leaves town over public protest

DIMAPUR: Amit Nigam, Tuensang Superintendent of Police, has left Tuensang over public protest against him as well as ultimatum served by the Confederation of Chang Students Union demanding Nigam's transfer order.

The student union held a protest on Saturday demanding SP Tuensang's transfer within 24 hours and it is reported that the SP has left Tuensang on the Sunday morning itself.

The student body has served the ultimatum addressing to Nagaland DGP T. John Longkumer where it has stated that the relationship of SP with the Tribal Apex Organisations in Tuensang District implies a grave dereliction of his duty and his principles and executions of power had brought forth a disparity, contradicting our traditional ethics and morality.

The SP was also accused of physical assault on one of his constables with Tribal identity and later let the victim repair the accidental damages. The Confederation further demanded an immediate response to the ultimatum.

The Union also alleged the failure of DC to provide the requisite security personnel and discourteous withdrawal during the 7th ENSF General Conference on August 27, 2021.
