Nagaland's Dimapur reports decline in COVID-19 cases

Dimapur: Nodal officer for Dimapur district Covid-19 activities Y Kikheto Sema said Dimapur is showing a declining trend in Covid cases.

Briefing media persons at Dimapur deputy commissioner’s conference hall, Sema said the Covid positive percentage of the district which accounted for 61 percent until the last few weeks has presently declined to 50 percent, which is a satisfactory sign.

He attributed the decline to the ongoing lockdown.

Highlighting on Covid statistics of Dimapur, Sema said the district has 2,509 active cases out of a total of 5,049 active cases in the State which accounts for roughly 49.63 percent.

He said 2,231 people are in home isolation as against 4,364 people in the State. Sema said altogether 162 patients are admitted in hospitals in Dimapur as against 236 of the total patients admitted in the State.

He stated that a total of 30,027 samples were tested for Covid-19 in Dimapur from January this year till date. Out of these, 5,179 tested positive, showing 17.24 percent positive cases.

Sema said the percentage of positive cases would further decline by the end of lockdown.

Stating that the deaths due to Covid in Dimapur is still high at 4.11 percent from January till date, Sema said out of 214 Covid deaths, only 11 were vaccinated with the first dose while 203 victims were not vaccinated.

Vaccinated death rate accounted for 5.14 percent mostly with comorbidities whereas the non-vaccinated death rate stood at 94.86 percent, he added.

Out of the 214 deaths, male comprises 148 (69 percent) while female 66 (31 percent), he said. Out of the total active cases of 5,179, only 298 cases (5.57 percent) were vaccinated with the first dose of vaccine and non-vaccinated cases stood at 4,881 (94.25 percent), Sema maintained.

Saying that this data was collected from all the hospitals in Dimapur, Sema said the vaccination is proven to be safe. He urged the public not to hesitate in getting the vaccine.

He also asked those people who have been spreading false information about vaccination on various social media platforms not to confuse others even if they wish not to get vaccinated.

He directed Dimapur deputy commissioner and commissioner of police to take appropriate action against such people.

Sema added that PSA oxygen plant in Dimapur District Hospital has already received certification from the authority concerned and started functioning on May 25.

Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom said nine people died due to Covid-19 while 174 tested positive in the State on Tuesday.

While the active cases climbed to 4,725, a total of 372 people died of the virus, Phom tweeted. He said there were 13 other deaths.

Among the new cases, Dimapur recorded 58, Mokokchung 43, Tuensang 20, Kohima 16, Mon 12, Phek 10, Wokha 8, Zunheboto 5 and Kiphire and Longleng 1 each.

He said 373 positive patients recovered during the day. Of them, 208 were from Kohima, Mon 57, Dimapur 36, Tuensang 22, Zunheboto 17, Phek 16, Mokokchung 10, Longleng 5 and Wokha 2.

The total caseload in the State stood at 21,854 while 16,111 people recovered from the infection in the State so far.

Phom said 633 people migrated from the State.
