Imphal, January 15, 2019:

Hitler Singh, an ASI from Manipur, was recently suspended amid rising calls for his termination after a video of him brutally attacking a driver at the Kangpokpi bazar in Senapati district went viral.

In the viral video, a police personnel, who was later identified as Hitler Singh, is seen kicking the truck driver, Dale Alexander of Koide village, several times and pointing a gun at him right in the middle of the road.

Coincidentally, the incident occurred at around 3:30 am on January 14 when the drivers' associations across Manipur were observing Drivers' Day.

Earlier, the Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union, the Senapati District Truck Owner's Association and the Senapati District Drivers' Welfare Union had alleged that he had attempted to murder the driver and jointly demanded Singh's suspension within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Kuki Students' Organisation Sadar Hills, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi and Kangpokpi Youth Union have also strongly condemned the incident.

Amid mounting pressure from the drivers' associations and civil bodies, the Government of Manipur has suspended the ASI.

An official notice sent out from the Superintendent's office stated that Hitler's conduct is "quite unbecoming of a member of a disciplined force like Manipur Police" and added "under Rule 66 of Assam Police Manual Part-III do hereby placed ASI Th. Hitler Singh of Kangkokpi Reserve Line DHQ under suspension from immediate effects until further orders."
