The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on June 21st, 2020, said that the Congress will be the kingmaker in the ensuing general election of the Bodoland Territorial Council in Assam
"Congress party will be the kingmaker in the elections of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) by winning a large number of seats. The Congress-AIUDF is jointly contesting in 20 seats,” said former MLA and APCC spokesperson Abdur Rahim Khan.
An executive meeting of the Kokrajhar district Congress committee was held at party office today, chaired newly appointed party president and ex BTC MCLA Mominur Islam where Khan attended and discussed on the strategy building up over the ensuing BTC elections. The Congress party has fully vowed to put candidates for the council relations and hope that party will gain mass support.

Notably, BTC election for 40-member house was scheduled on 4th April and postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic in the state for an indefinite period. BPF is contesting in 37 seats, UPPL 40, GSP 40,BJP 26, Congress 13 and AIUDF with their own candidates respectively.
Addressing the reporters at a Press Conference in Kokrajhar today at Congress party office, APCC leader Khan,who is also BTC election Co-coordinator in BTAD informed that Congress-AIUDF jointly contesting in 20 seats(Congress 13 and AIUDF 7) in BTC election and going to be deciding factor in the region as party is getting majority supports across the region.
He has claimed that no parties could be formed without support of Congress-AIUDF.
"We would support the anti-BJP government in the council because Congress wants healthy development and welfare amongst the society", Khan said.
He has accused Hagrama Mohilary led BPF ruled BTAD administration has perpetrated huge corruption and anomalies in their 17 year rule and this time BPF party will face severe defeats in the council elections.
He said that Congress-AIUDF will boost strong mass support in the council which will stand a strict impact on BPF in the region.
He also alleged that BJP led alliance government at state and NDA government at centre have failed to fulfill hopes and aspirations of the citizens in the country.
Khan has said that his party is preparing with a strong strategy for the 2021 Assam assembly election and will be forming a grand non-BJP alliance with like minded parties in the state. He while offering opportunities for forming non-NJP alliance said that Congress’s door is open for all if parties want to come for alliance.
President of Kokrajhar district Congress Committee and ex-BTC MCLA Mominur Islam has slammed BPF president Hagrama Mohilary over the post-poll alliance, said if Mohilary want to make alliance with Congress, then first break-up alliance with BJP and come towards the good alliance in the BTC council.He has denied that there was no alliance with BPF till date as some sources claiming in the region.
Meanwhile, UPPL president Pramod Boro said that his party is contesting the council election to pave the way for good governance with bringing change of guard in the region.He has accused the BPF ruled council has done nothing welfare for the common masses as wished for their 17 year reign. He has vowed to work more development as well integration amongst all sections of society if they voted to power.He has assured that his party is fully committed to deep dedication to make healthy sustainable unity and integrity in the region.
“There was only corruption and anomalies in the BPF ruled council. Peoples from all sections are remaining far from development and welfare due to insincerity of good governance”,Boro added.
Assam BJP has also claimed that the saffron party is gaining up its mass support in the council region as the common masses are coming forward to extend support to the party.
The BJP party is putting 26 candidates in the council and hopeful that party is winning a large number of seats in the council election.
