KOHIMA: The National Highway (NH) 29 between Kohima and Dimapur opened today for commuters between 6:00 am and 10:00 am for light vehicles and between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm for both heavy and light every day.

This decision was taken after the meeting to review the traffic restriction which took place after the rockslides on the New Chümoukedima segment of National Highway 29 last week.

Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi during the meeting expressed his concerns over the untold difficulties for the public due to continuing traffic restrictions on the highway.

The Governor also expressed his dissatisfaction to the contractors for “irresponsible rock blasting which is the cause of the heavy rock slide,” informed a press release from the Public relations officer to the Governor.

He advised the state government to find out the legal actions and hold the contractors responsible for their wrongdoings.

After detailed deliberations regarding the safety requirements of passengers, it was decided that the total restriction on traffic was not required and new traffic rules were decided upon.

It was decided that the NHIDCL would ensure that adequate resources are put on the ground by the contractors and that sufficient measures are taken to stabilize the rocks and remove debris without delay.

After one week, the Dimapur District Administration will review the situation to further ease the traffic.

Meanwhile, Dimapur Deputy Commissioner (DC) order ordered all vehicles to comply with all traffic regulations and maintain a gap between vehicles of at least 30 meters.
