GANGTOK: In the wake of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang yesterday declared that a night curfew would be imposed with effect from tonight.
In addition to imposing a night curfew at 10 pm, all the restaurants, bars, discos, pubs, and gyms throughout the state will close at 10 pm.
After 10.30 pm, vehicles will also be prohibited from operating in the state.
The chief minister also urged the citizens of Sikkim to wear masks on a daily basis and adhere to the COVID-19 protocol's social distancing norms.

Soon after attending the video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review the situation arising from the recent rise in COVID-19 cases across the world, CM Tamang released the instructions on social media.
According to the latest report of Sikkim centralized information system, as of March 16, currently, the state has 44 active cases.
The number of total cases is 6191 while 5915 have been recovered.
Over 135 have died due to the disease.
